Overall, Mark was a very nice man, and the breakfast he made us was excellent, although that hardly makes up for unclean conditions. Perhaps our experience was not the best because of the off season timing, but we will not be returning any time soon.
After doing our best to clean the tub with bar soap, we used it later that evening. While I was lounging in the bath robe, I happened to stick my hand in the pocket and discovered a pack of cigarettes. Clearly, these belonged to Mark. Both the tub and bath robe had been used and not washed afterwards. Needless to say, this got me thinking about what other elements in the Inn had not been cleaned after another guest had used it.
Mark was very friendly, and immediately showed us to our room on the second floor. Unfortunately, this was not the room my boyfriend had reserved for us after he called to specifically request a room with a bath tub. Mark apologized and showed us to the correct room. While walking us upstairs, he commented "I must confess, I took a bath in there last night because it's been so cold". I was expecting this comment to be followed by him mentioning that the tub had been cleaned since then, but no such luck. After checking out the tub, there was a slight ring where it was obvious someone had recently bathed. Mark showed us the plush bath robes in the closet, and left.
My boyfriend recently reserved a room at the Waystead Inn for Valentine's Day, and based off the great reviews, we were expecting it to be a nice over-night trip. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
This place was beautiful. An old home restored, and renovated to be the perfect B and B. The staff was friendly and it felt like I was home. Make a point to stay for breakfast as it truly was spectacular.
Our second morning Eric remembered that I'd asked for tea the day before and when we came down for breakfast there was a pot waiting on the table for us. Simply a great place to stay. Highly recommended.
Beautiful place, very friendly manager
My wife and I stayed here over the Labor Day weekend and it was absolutely fantastic. It's only about 20 minutes to Ocean City and 15 minutes to Assateague State Park. Berlin is a very nice little town but be aware that everything starts to close around 7 pm.
Came back with my girlfriend 2 weekends ago and it was as memorable as ever. This time we went during the Christmas season and the place was decorated beautifully by Sarah, the inn keeper. She was wonderful and attentive. The inn was as charming as ever, and only about a minute drive from Berlin small business shopping streets which was also beautifully decorated. We couldn't have asked for a better stay... a better experience. And that's really what you get from staying here. It's not just a place to sleep in, but an experience to enjoy and cherish. Thank you Sarah! Just wished we had more time to chat with you!
The accommodations are spacious and everything feels really first class. The innkeeper/chef Eric took excellent care of us and prepared a wonderful breakfast each morning that included special touches, like fresh figs from the tree outside.
That morning, my boyfriend mentioned the dirty bath robe issue to Mark at breakfast. While he was explaining that the pack of cigarettes obviously implied that the bath robe was dirty, Mark stared blankly at us and smiled. In an attempt to fill the silence, I added "uh, we left the pack on the dresser in the room". Mark smiled and replied "hey, that's okay". We did not receive any form of explanation or even apology.
We arrived around 3:30 and knocked for a few minutes without anyone answering. After about 15 minutes, Mark arrived smelling of cigarette smoke. (Obviously this would not have been an issue if it weren't for an unsettling detail later.)
