Lovingly restored colonial mansion. Open 1-4 PM (last tour starts at 3:15). Only open mid May thru October. Volunteer docents are on hand to talk about life in colonial times. There is a modest admission fee.

A 1740s plantation house that offers a unique perspective on Maryland history. The docents were some of the best I've ever had for a historical home tour. In addition the general history of the house, docents gave thorough and interesting talks on colonial child-rearing, cooking, agriculture, and other topics. I've taken many tours of colonial properties, but I learned the most from this tour.

Rackliffe is a little out of the way and doesn't seem to get that many visitors (part of the reason the docents could give me so much attention). You can drive directly to the house or take a short hike from the Assateague Visitors Center. The hike is mostly flat, shaded, and not too buggy, a good break from hikes on Assateague.
